iphoneWith the release of the iPhone some 8 months ago, I’ll admit I was extremely excited. Anything that Apple Computers comes out with is sure to be something worth taking a look at. (Yes I am a big time apple fan) After taking an lengthy look at one in the Apple Store at the Mall of America, I was well about 100 steps past astounded. The iPhone is no doubt years ahead of any competition in the mobile category of things, but is service available in your area? Many are finding out it’s not.

This week Apple released the iPhone SDK (Software Development Kit). This allows 3rd-party developers the opportunity to build new applications for the iPhone and then distribute them worldwide via Apple’s App Store. It seemed evident that they were looking for a new way to expand the iPhone as any product development team would do. However, my question is how many people actually have the availability to the iPhone itself? What I’m saying is did they forget to ask themselves what sort of limitation they were putting upon what I feel is one of their greatest products, the iPhone. This limitation was putting it on the AT&T Network and not allowing it on any other. Surely there are several other networks that likely would have suited the iPhone in their line-up.

I think Apple is losing a lot of truly interested customers who are willing to pay the price for the iPhone simply because service is not available to them or it is limited. I like what Apple has done with their development of the product but don’t like the limitations that millions of people are like experiencing. I guess we’ll have to see how soon the iPhone will be available to other people.
